A drawbridge was the only connection between West Seattle and the rest of the city for over 100 years. This tenuous connection shaped the distinctive character of this neighborhood. Referencing archived photos, historical articles and stories from the people of West Seattle, this integrated artwork strives to reflect the unique identity of West Seattle by creating an experiential yet ephemeral gateway for those entering into the community.
In plan and elevation it shows the tall pieces that stand at the entrance of West Seattle. The angles and placement of these spindly pieces appear to be random, however they come together to form a bridge when people view them from the right location.
